Grotesque As Social Criticism
Art by Tanya Doskova
A Bulgarian born artist living in Vancouver, Tanya Doskova has won several awards, including the Adobe Systems Gold Award, Cannon Canada Gold and the The Readers Digest Merit Award for Editorial Illustration. Time and again, the intense political images of Tanya Doskova traduce the art of more optimistic times with a vision still alive with structural courage, yet freighted with the pain and despair of societal corruption, the feral ruthlessness of power.
In this feature you can see Tanya through the various art processes, among which lithography and computer animation to create her archetypal characters and complex images of oppression or corruption, and the more ambiguous images of narcissism or control.
