Elena Popova, Painter, St. John's, NL

Elena Popova was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. She graduated with a MFA degree in painting from the National Academy of Fine Arts. In 1990 Elena moved to Canada and since then has been living and working in Newfoundland. She lives in Flatrock with her husband, acclaimed sculptor Luben Boykov.

Elena’s imagery is emotionally explosive, rich and complex – a momentary registration of the spiritual world in a state of constant flux. She has shown nationally and internationally and has numerous awards to her credit. Her work can be found in public and private collections in North America, Australia and Europe. A retrospective of Elena’s work is scheduled to be shown in The Rooms, Newfoundland’s provincial art museum, in 2010.
